Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev on 23 October to discuss construction of the country’s first integrated nuclear power plant, workforce training and the development of supporting infrastructure.
The talks focused on the practical implementation of the nuclear power plant project and the use of advanced technologies and expertise in building the facilities required for its operation.
The two sides noted that work was continuing on the foundation of the first reactor building, alongside the design of the plant.
Training qualified personnel for Uzbekistan’s nuclear industry was another key topic. The discussions covered specialist training at the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, as well as at Rosatom facilities.
Mirziyoyev and Likhachev also reviewed plans to build a town for nuclear industry workers near the future power plant.
The project envisages energy-efficient housing, modern educational, medical and sports facilities, and other social infrastructure designed to provide comfortable living conditions for specialists and their families.
