Uzbek, Turkmen Leaders Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation on 24 July 2026 with the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

During the call, the parties discussed further strengthening bilateral cooperation and implementing previously reached agreements.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated the Uzbek leader on his birthday, wishing him good health, well-being, and continued success, and conveyed greetings and best wishes from President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The conversation addressed current issues in the development of Uzbek-Turkmen relations of friendship, good-neighborliness, and strategic partnership. The leaders noted with satisfaction the positive momentum in interaction based on mutual trust and shared interests.

It was highlighted that active contacts between the two countries continue at various levels. The outcomes of the political consultations recently held in Ashgabat received high praise.

The sides also noted growth in mutual trade turnover and cargo transportation volumes. They emphasized that the operation of the "Shavat – Dashoguz" border trade zone contributes to trade development.

The successful implementation of joint projects in energy, industry, agriculture, water management, and transport was highlighted during the conversation. Special attention was paid to further expanding interparliamentary, interregional, business, and cultural-humanitarian ties.

In addition, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed the coordination of regional cooperation, including preparations for the upcoming Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, scheduled to take place this autumn in Avaza.
