Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has stressed the need to preserve unity, social harmony and peace to continue large-scale reforms in the country.
He made the remarks on 11 September during a meeting with Tashkent activists.
Against the backdrop of growing global risks, Uzbekistan must value the results already achieved and accelerate reforms, Mirziyoyev said. He noted that the impact of reforms is reflected primarily in people’s work and their satisfaction with the changes taking place.
The president cited developments in Tashkent’s Almazar District as an example, saying projects implemented there demonstrated that significant results could be achieved.
Mirziyoyev also linked domestic reforms to Uzbekistan’s foreign policy. He said the country seeks friends and partners capable of supporting its reforms, stressing that stronger partnerships require building trust and focusing on concrete results.
The president separately addressed education. He said around 2,500 young people had been sent abroad to study in various fields over the past three to four years.
At the same time, Mirziyoyev spoke about a student who received a major scholarship to study in Malaysia but decided to continue her education in Uzbekistan. According to the president, she explained her decision by the growing opportunities available to young people inside the country.
Mirziyoyev linked these changes to the opening of presidential and specialised schools, as well as new higher education institutions. He said the higher education enrolment rate had increased from 9% at the start of the reforms to 44%, while the number of universities had reached 207.
The president described education as one of the key factors in the country’s further development, highlighting the important role of teachers, knowledge and the education system as a whole.
Mirziyoyev also stressed the need to continuously accelerate the pace of reforms. He said unity, harmony and peace were essential to achieving the objectives that had been set.
As an example, the president referred to China’s economic achievements. In his view, the “Chinese miracle” became possible because different groups in society united around a common goal.
Mirziyoyev said Tashkent should serve as an example for other regions of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the president also instructed the mayors of the capital’s 12 districts to identify sites, investors and sources of financing by 1 October for the construction of major shopping complexes and malls.
In addition, 400 mahallas are planned to be developed based on the model of Kichkirik. Some 10 trillion soums is expected to be allocated for these efforts.
National and city officials will visit Tashkent’s districts every week and hold meetings with investors.
Issues requiring decisions at a higher level must be submitted to the Presidential Administration on the same day. The new procedure will remain under special control until the end of the year.
