Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the activities of ToshTech Technical University during his visit to Tashkent’s Almazar district.
The university was established in accordance with a presidential resolution dated 8 September 2025. The project, valued at 69.5 billion soums, is aimed at developing a new model of engineering education.
As part of the project, a seven-storey academic building of Tashkent State Technical University was fully renovated and equipped with modern laboratories and educational facilities.
ToshTech is a state university with academic, financial and organisational and managerial autonomy. Under the approved programme, relevant faculties and departments of Tashkent State Technical University will be gradually transformed into the university’s innovation ecosystem through 2030.
The new university has attracted significant interest among applicants. A total of 1,654 people applied for the 2026/2027 academic year. Following the selection process, 400 of the most capable and talented young people were admitted.
All students in the first intake are receiving their education on 100% state-funded grants. This measure will remain in place for applicants through the 2029/2030 academic year.
Education at the university is conducted entirely in English. Classes are taught by Uzbek academics and highly qualified foreign specialists.
The educational programmes cover four areas, including industrial engineering and management, electrical engineering, energy engineering, materials science and nanotechnology.
ToshTech is developing cooperation with leading international educational organisations. The university’s partners include Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China, Politecnico di Milano in Italy, Bremen University of Applied Sciences in Germany and consulting firm Boston Consulting Group.
The university places a strong emphasis on practical engineering training. From their first years of study, students are expected to work on real industrial projects and solve engineering problems. To this end, the university cooperates with domestic and international industrial companies, where students can undertake internships with the prospect of subsequent employment.
Partners include Acwa, UzAuto Motors, Thermal Power Plants JSC and Regional Electric Networks JSC.
The president was presented with information on the university’s further development plans. During discussions with faculty members and students, it was noted that ToshTech should become an innovation platform for training a new generation of engineers capable of contributing to the development of the country’s industrial potential.
“I want to emphasise once again that a person’s property, position in society and other material benefits are temporary and transient, but no one and no force can take away the knowledge and experience a person possesses. Knowledge is the most reliable and most useful investment a person can make,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
