Uzbekistan Introduces Special Signs for Geographical Indications
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has approved special signs to indicate the registration of geographical indications and appellations of origin for goods.
The relevant Cabinet of Ministers resolution was adopted on 5 September and entered into force on 7 September.
The new signs may be used by holders of certificates confirming the right to use registered geographical indications and appellations of origin for goods. The signs may be placed directly on a product or its packaging. They will indicate that the relevant designation has been registered in Uzbekistan.
For geographical indications, the approved sign is a green circle featuring the silhouette of a map of Uzbekistan. It includes a red geographical marker with the designation “GI”, as well as inscriptions in Uzbek and English.
A similar marking has been approved for appellations of origin, using a blue color scheme and carrying the designation “AO”.
The approved signs are intended exclusively for geographical indications and appellations of origin associated with the territory of Uzbekistan.
The markings may be used in either color or black-and-white versions.
Their size may be adjusted when necessary, provided that the original proportions and approved appearance of the sign are maintained.
