Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan could become a country free of poverty and unemployment by the end of the year if adopted decrees and resolutions are fully implemented, Minister of Employment and Poverty Reduction Botir Zakhidov said.
On 9 September, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held an expanded meeting on regional efforts to create jobs and increase household incomes, the Uzbek presidential press service said.
In an interview with O’zbekiston 24 television, Zakhidov said that over the past three days, 100,000 households had been covered under a new working procedure, including 46,000 low-income families.
Instructions outlining tasks and work processes were developed for responsible officials in each mahalla, including members of the so-called “seven.” A total of 12,000 employees — 9,000 mahalla assistants to hokims and 3,000 mahalla bankers — completed online training under the new guidelines.
The work began with identifying potentially low-income and unemployed citizens in need of higher incomes. Their preferences, aspirations and actual opportunities were assessed through an electronic survey.
Based on the survey results, measures were identified for members of low-income families, including employment, involvement in entrepreneurship, referral to specific vacancies or vocational training. About 13,000 people are planned to be engaged in entrepreneurial activities, while another 12,000 will be referred to specific vacancies.
Meetings were held with 162 entrepreneurs in all districts, while 48 job fairs were also organized.
Zakhidov said that six days of work had shown that available opportunities were not being fully utilized.
According to the minister, previous efforts had focused primarily on increasing incomes.
Following the meeting, the president set tasks across eight areas. They call for attention not only to increasing household incomes but also to vocational guidance.
“Full implementation of the adopted decrees and resolutions will allow us to turn our republic into a region free of poverty and unemployment by the end of the year,” Zakhidov said.
