Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Three minor children of Uzbek nationals serving sentences in Mordovia and Samara Region, Russia, have been returned to Uzbekistan with assistance from the country’s Consulate General in Kazan, Dunyo news agency reported.
The children’s return was organized under the coordination of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the competent authorities of the Russian Federation.
As part of the process, diplomats established the children’s citizenship, determined whether they had close relatives in Uzbekistan and assessed the conditions in which they would live after returning to the country. The necessary documents for their repatriation were also prepared.
After all procedures were completed, consulate staff collected the children from children’s homes at correctional facilities and handed them over to representatives of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs for their return home.
The Consulate General said efforts to return Uzbek minor citizens from children’s homes at Russian correctional facilities are being carried out on a systematic basis.
