Uzbek Judge Detained in Alleged Bribery Case

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A judge in Uzbekistan’s Syrdarya region has been detained on suspicion of receiving a bribe amounting to 3,600 US dollars, according to the press secretary of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan.

Investigators said the funds were allegedly intended to secure a favorable ruling in a cassation instance for a limited liability company operating in the city of Gulistan.

The detention was carried out during an operational law enforcement measure. Authorities stated that the judge of the Syrdarya regional economic court had promised to assist one of the parties in the ongoing legal proceedings in exchange for a monetary reward.

A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident, and investigative actions are currently underway. Officials added that further details will be released at a later stage.
