Belarus and Uzbekistan to Expand Cooperation Across Sectors

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Belarus and Uzbekistan intend to step up cooperation in medicine, tourism, information technology, education, and industrial partnership.

The statement was made by Vladimir Kukharev, Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, during a meeting with Nuriddin Mamajonov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Belarus and Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the statutory and other bodies of the CIS, according to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

During the meeting, the sides discussed promising areas for developing trade and economic ties and expanding interaction between the two countries.

Special attention was paid to industrial cooperation. In particular, the Belarusian side proposed developing cooperation in woodworking and furniture manufacturing, noting the high level of development of the relevant industries in Belarus and the demand for Belarusian products on the Uzbek market.

A separate focus was placed on healthcare cooperation. Belarus is ready to assist in establishing collaboration between Uzbek partners and enterprises specializing in the production of medical equipment and technology.

The sides also reviewed prospects for cooperation in education, noting that Uzbek citizens are showing interest in studying in Belarus.

Enhancing transport connectivity remains an important area of interaction. Kukharev emphasized the need to increase the number of flights between the two countries, which would promote tourism and create additional opportunities for business contacts.

In addition, the sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation in IT and scientific research.

An important event in the development of bilateral business ties was the opening of the Uzbekistan Trade House in Minsk. According to Kukharev, its activities are of interest to both business representatives and city residents interested in products from Uzbek manufacturers.

Ambassador Mamajonov noted that Belarus and Uzbekistan have broad opportunities for interaction across a range of fields, from industrial cooperation to culture and tourism.

"We are carrying out the tasks set by the leaders of our countries. During the latest meeting in Minsk, they clearly defined a new bar for interaction, and we have begun discussing the ways we will achieve this," the diplomat noted.

He added that the sides are committed to further strengthening cooperation and expect to achieve their first practical results this year.

An additional platform for developing business contacts will be the International Forum on Economic Cooperation, scheduled for 11 September 2026 in Minsk. Entrepreneurs from Uzbekistan are expected to attend the event to hold negotiations with Belarusian counterparts and outline new areas of cooperation.

Special attention at the meeting was given to the localization of Belarusian machinery in Uzbekistan. Mamajonov reported that Uzbekistan is interested in establishing Belarusian service centers within the country, as well as organizing the assembly of municipal and passenger vehicles.

Specifically, interest was noted in products from Belkommunmash and the potential for their use in the municipal sector of Tashkent and other regions of Uzbekistan. The localization of bus production as part of public transport modernization in major Uzbek cities was also identified as a promising direction.

The meeting confirmed the mutual interest of Belarus and Uzbekistan in expanding practical interaction, implementing joint projects, and advancing to a new stage of trade and economic cooperation.
