Turakurgan persimmons enter international markets

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Preparations for exporting the persimmon harvest are continuing in Turakurgan district of Namangan region. The harvested fruit is being sorted and assessed for quality before being prepared for storage and delivery to foreign markets.

The total area of persimmon orchards in Namangan region is 1,875 hectares, of which 326 hectares are located in Turakurgan district.

Persimmons grown by local farmers and entrepreneurs are in demand abroad. The produce is supplied to CIS countries and the United Arab Emirates. This year, the first batch of persimmons from Turakurgan was exported to South Korea.

Particular attention is paid to food quality and safety requirements when preparing produce for foreign markets. The region is implementing the “farm-to-table” principle, which provides for controls at every stage, from cultivation and harvesting to sorting, storage, laboratory testing, disinfection and the processing of phytosanitary documents.

To prevent the spread of harmful organisms and quarantine pests, specialists regularly conduct phytosanitary monitoring of persimmon orchards and take appropriate preventive measures.

The expansion of export destinations creates additional opportunities for persimmon producers in Turakurgan district.

An increase in supplies to foreign markets is expected to contribute to higher incomes for farmers and entrepreneurs, the creation of new jobs and the strengthening of the region’s economic potential.
