Traffic Police Inspector Dies After Hit-and-Run in Ferghana
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A driver operating a Spark vehicle under the influence of alcohol struck a traffic patrol police inspector who was attempting to stop the vehicle in Ferghana Region. The police officer died in hospital from his injuries.
According to the press service of the Ferghana Region Department of Internal Affairs, the incident occurred on 31 July at approximately 23:30 on the 20th kilometer of a highway passing through the Ukchi mahalla in Uzbekistan District.
The department reported that the 30-year-old driver ignored a lawful order to stop and hit Senior DPS Inspector of the Public Safety Service of the Ferghana Region Department of Internal Affairs, Sergeant Khayitbek Karimjanov, who was on night duty.
The victim was hospitalized with severe injuries but died in the intensive care unit despite doctors' efforts.
The Uzbekistan District Prosecutor's Office initiated a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (violation of traffic safety or vehicle operation rules causing human death) and Part 2 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code (leaving in danger). A preliminary investigation is underway.
The Department of Internal Affairs reported that Khayitbek Karimjanov had served in the internal affairs bodies since 2022. He is survived by his mother, wife, and two children.
