Sojitz to Build and Manage New Tashkent Airport

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Japanese corporation Sojitz, Saudi Arabia's Vision International Investment Company (Vision Invest), and South Korea's Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) signed a 35-year concession agreement with state company Uzbekistan Airports to build and operate the new Tashkent International Airport. The press service of Sojitz reported this on 31 July.

The agreement was signed in June 2026 during the Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIIF-2026).

According to Sojitz, the total investment in the project will exceed 370 billion Japanese yen, or about US$2.5 billion. The commissioning of the new airport is scheduled for 2030.

The project envisions the creation of the largest aviation hub in Central Asia, which will serve passenger and cargo transportation as well as logistics operations. The capacity of the new airport is expected to reach 20 million passengers per year, which is approximately double the capacity of the current capital airport.

Sojitz noted that the development of the airport will be carried out by a consortium comprising Sojitz, Vision Invest, IIAC, and Uzbekistan Airports. The partners intend to combine their expertise in airport management to create a modern and safe aviation complex.

The company also plans to use its international network of partners to attract new air carriers, expand the route network, and develop related business areas, including commercial services in terminals and ground handling of aircraft.

The corporation emphasized that Uzbekistan, with a population of about 37 million people, is the largest market in Central Asia.

According to the company's assessment, population growth, an increasing influx of foreign direct investment, and the implementation of the Uzbekistan-2030 strategy—which envisions infrastructure development and aviation industry reforms using public-private partnership mechanisms—create favorable conditions for the project's execution.

Sojitz also reported that it has been operating in Uzbekistan since the 1990s and is currently participating in the implementation of several major infrastructure projects. Among them are the construction of the Syrdarya II thermal power plant with a capacity of 1.6 GW, a 1 GW wind farm in Navoi Region, and an 800-bed multidisciplinary hospital in Samarkand Region.

According to the company's assessment, the realization of the new international airport project will become the foundation for further expansion of its investment activities in Uzbekistan and will contribute to the sustainable socio-economic development of the country.
