Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan striker Eldor Shomurodov’s goal finished second in the voting for the best goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Cape Verde defender Sidney Lopes Cabral won the vote.
Cabral scored his goal in the round-of-16 match against Argentina. In the 103rd minute, he struck from the corner of the penalty area into the top corner of Emiliano Martinez’s goal to level the score. Cape Verde eventually lost 2-3 to Argentina in extra time.
Shomurodov scored his goal in the group-stage match against the Democratic Republic of Congo, which Uzbekistan lost 1-3. In the 10th minute, the Uzbekistan striker lifted the ball over the opposing goalkeeper from a tight angle.
The goal had previously been named the best goal of the World Cup group stage.
Haiti’s Wilson Isidor finished third in the final vote.
