Tashkent Expands "Green Wave" Traffic System Coverage

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Traffic Management Center (TMC) has launched a new section of the "Green Wave" traffic control system in Tashkent.

The system began operating on a 1.7 km stretch of the Small Ring Road, spanning from the intersection with Bogibuston Street to the Chilanzar metro station.

According to the TMC, specialists synchronized five traffic signal objects along the corridor. For the first time on this section, a unified "Green Wave" mode operates around the clock simultaneously in both directions, made possible by nearly uniform traffic flow.

Data from the center shows that prior to traffic light synchronization, traversing this section took an average of about five minutes. Following the system's implementation, travel time decreased to 2 minutes 45 seconds, representing a reduction of approximately 45 percent.

By maintaining the designated speed limit of 40 to 60 km/h, drivers can navigate the intersections more smoothly without stopping for red lights.

Previously, the TMC implemented the first phase of the "Green Wave" system on Buyuk Ipak Yuli Street — from the Tura Buva Mosque to Salom Street — where traffic lights were synchronized across 13 regulated intersections.

Currently, the system covers 18 regulated intersections across two capital corridors totaling 5.7 km in length.

According to TMC estimates, average travel times along these routes have decreased by approximately 30 percent.
