Mirziyoyev: 4,000 Power Outages Recorded Across Uzbekistan This Summer

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Nearly 4,000 blackouts occurred in Uzbekistan's power grids during June and July 2026, leaving consumers without electricity for up to 8–10 hours. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the figures during a meeting on priority tasks in the fuel and energy sector.

The head of state drew attention to disparities in power supply quality between different districts. According to Mirziyoyev, despite utilizing nearly identical grid infrastructure, systems operate reliably in certain areas while recurring failures plague others.

Mirziyoyev attributed the situation to insufficient oversight and discipline within the sector. He also criticized officials across Ministry of Energy structures for lack of performance and responsibility, noting widespread dissatisfaction among citizens and business owners.

"The work performed by every executive in the system should primarily be felt in citizens' daily lives and lighten the burden on entrepreneurs," the President emphasized.

According to Mirziyoyev, dozens of substation failures occur every summer and winter, along with hundreds of fires at transformer points. At the same time, responsible agencies fail to proactively account for growing loads on power networks.

In particular, electricity consumption has more than doubled over the past five years in Tashkent's Yangihayot and Yakkasaray districts, as well as in Akhangaran and Shirin. However, Mirziyoyev noted that responsible officials took no timely measures to accommodate the higher demand.

The President also criticized the absence of economic loss calculations for each power disruption. According to him, district khokims lack necessary data regarding local energy consumption balances, resulting in significant losses for businesses and the broader economy.
