Mirziyoyev: Main Energy Problem Is System Management

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is holding a video conference meeting dedicated to priority tasks in the fuel and energy sector.

Opening the meeting, the head of state noted that large-scale reforms have been carried out in the energy sector over the past decade. According to him, adopted laws and decisions have created conditions to expand private sector participation and attract foreign investors.

The President emphasized that he has personally met with investors on numerous occasions to review their proposals. For each major project, he noted, the state created the necessary conditions and provided appropriate guarantees.

As a result, US$23 billion in foreign investment was attracted into the energy sector. Power plants with a total capacity of 9.5 GW have been commissioned across various regions of the country, which, as the President noted, made it possible to create generating capacity that fully covers Uzbekistan's domestic electricity demand.

In addition, 30 trillion soums have been directed in recent years toward modernizing electrical and gas networks, substations, transformers, and gas distribution units. According to the head of state, this is six times higher than the total amount of funds allocated for these purposes over the preceding 25 years.

"It must be said openly: the problem in the energy sector is not financing, since we find and allocate as much funding as necessary. The problem is system management!" Shavkat Mirziyoyev declared.
