Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Housing renovation in Tashkent does not imply the automatic demolition of all old houses. A decision to include a building in the program can only be made after a technical inspection and an expert conclusion on its condition, Rustam Kodirov, deputy chairman of the board of Tashkent Invest, stated during the Jarayon program on the Oriat Dono radio station.

According to him, there are approximately 2,200 two-story residential buildings in the capital built between the 1930s and the 1960s–1970s. These specific buildings are considered priorities for inspection, but their age alone is not a ground for inclusion in the renovation program.

Kodirov noted that the inspection of the technical condition of buildings is conducted by authorized specialists, while Tashkent Invest is responsible for project planning and participates in the development of implementation mechanisms alongside state bodies.

He emphasized that the year of construction cannot be the sole evaluation criterion. As an example, Kodirov cited 19th-century buildings that, despite their age, maintain structural integrity and are under state protection.

Currently, Tashkent Invest is developing renovation projects in the Mirabad, Yashnabad, and Sergeli districts of Tashkent. These territories were transferred to the company as part of a legal experiment provided for by a presidential decree adopted before the law on renovation came into force.

According to Kodirov, the company is conducting negotiations with developers to offer residents new housing near their former place of residence. This approach will preserve the familiar social environment, access to schools, and other infrastructure facilities. Options for housing corresponding in size, the possibility of carrying out renovations, and the provision of discounts are also being discussed. The state allocates appropriate funds to the company to pay compensations.

Residents are offered three options for compensation: a cash payment, temporary relocation followed by the provision of an apartment in a new building after construction is completed, or receiving housing of equal value in another district of the city.

The deputy chairman of the board of Tashkent Invest recommended that residents wishing to find out whether their home is affected by the renovation program contact their mahalla committees.

According to him, special headquarters also operate in the project implementation areas, where company representatives hold meetings with residents. Before the implementation of a project begins, it is necessary to obtain the consent of at least 80% of the property owners.

Kodirov also urged residents not to use the services of unofficial intermediaries who offer to influence the inclusion of houses in the program or resolve other issues for a fee.

According to him, official information should be obtained through mahalla committees, district khokimiyats, and headquarters established in the project implementation territories.
