Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Tashkent hokimiyat has adjusted its approach to implementing the city’s design code after receiving feedback from businesses. Authorities said further work would be based on open dialogue, clear communication and individual consideration of issues raised by entrepreneurs, the Tashkent hokimiyat said.

From 11 May to 26 July, the implementation of the design code covered 3,228 businesses on 56 streets across the capital. To assess how clear the new requirements were for businesses, the Tashkent hokimiyat and the territorial office of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry conducted a survey of entrepreneurs.

The survey found that in some cases the requirements, procedures for preparing documents and sequence of necessary steps had not been explained in a timely or sufficiently clear manner. The hokimiyat acknowledged the concerns as justified and said they would be taken into account in further work.

As of now, 509 businesses have already changed their facade designs in accordance with the requirements, while another 2,627 are completing the work. Authorities plan to address the remaining issues individually in cooperation with district hokimiyats and relevant organizations.

In addition, experts from Toshkent Invest Kompaniyasi JSC, the Committee for Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights, and the Tashkent hokimiyat’s Department of Digital Development organized training for specialists from 18 advertising and production companies.

Authorities said the purpose of implementing the design code is not only to bring facades into line with uniform requirements but also to make the process clear and fair for businesses. According to the hokimiyat, the requirements should improve the appearance of the capital without creating unjustified difficulties for businesses.
