Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan is discussing measures to resume mung bean exports to China from six companies whose shipments were temporarily suspended.

Jamshid Urunov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Food Safety responsible for plant protection and quarantine, held a meeting with representatives of the companies and briefed them on the results of negotiations with the Chinese side.

During the meeting, entrepreneurs were informed about the agreements reached and the requirements of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China for resuming supplies.

Mung bean exports by the six Uzbek companies were temporarily suspended from 1 September after the four-spotted bean weevil (Callosobruchus maculatus) was detected in batches of products they had shipped to China.

The identified pest is classified as a quarantine insect in China. To prevent its spread, the Chinese side imposed a temporary ban on mung bean exports from the six companies.

One of the key issues discussed during the negotiations was the use of effective fumigation methods in accordance with Chinese requirements. Following the discussions, the sides agreed to strengthen disinfection measures at the facilities where the products are packaged.

In addition, the Uzbek side plans to continue exchanging information with the General Administration of Customs of China on the use of modern fumigation agents.

Implementation of the agreed measures is aimed at addressing the identified risks and creating conditions for the resumption of mung bean exports from the companies affected by the temporary restriction.
