Russia and Uzbekistan Expand Rail Industry Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Russia and Uzbekistan continue to expand industrial cooperation in transport engineering and the railway sector.

During a working visit to Tashkent, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov visited the Tashkent plant for passenger wagon construction and repair. The enterprise is the only facility in Uzbekistan specializing in the repair, modernization, and refurbishment of passenger railcars.

It was noted that Russian technologies are actively used at the plant, alongside long-standing expertise in the development, production, and maintenance of railway equipment. The main objective of cooperation is to expand the presence of Russian transport engineering products in the Uzbek market.

Manturov emphasized that the historically developed engineering school and industrial base of both countries enable joint solutions to complex tasks, taking into account both current and future needs of the transport sector.

According to him, Russian manufacturers are already widely represented in Uzbekistan. Since 2007, equipment worth more than 30 billion rubles has been supplied to the country, including electric trains, diesel locomotives, metro cars, freight wagons, as well as diesel engines and components.

Cooperation is also developing in maintenance, servicing, digitalization, and modernization of transport infrastructure.

It was further noted that Russian companies are actively involved in localization processes in Uzbekistan.

Special attention was given to technological cooperation.

Last year, Transmashholding together with Tashkent State Technical University launched a competence development center titled “Innovative Rail Transport,” aimed at training specialists and advancing industry technologies.
