President Reviews Energy Reform and Winter Preparedness Measures
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with information on the implementation of instructions aimed at reforming the energy sector, improving the reliability of electricity and natural gas supplies, and preparing for the autumn-winter season, the presidential press service said.
According to the presentation, the work is being carried out in line with the tasks set by the president during a videoconference meeting on 27 July 2026 devoted to priority issues in the fuel and energy sector.
At that meeting, measures were outlined to improve sector governance, ensure stable electricity and gas supplies, reduce accidents and energy losses, organise operations at the district and mahalla levels, develop regional energy balances, conduct an inventory of networks and equipment, and introduce digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
The president was briefed on the work of the new leadership of the Ministry of Energy, Regional Electric Networks JSC and Uzenergoinspection in implementing these instructions.
In Yangiyul District, a special task force has been established to improve electricity and gas supplies. It is holding open meetings with entrepreneurs and residents to consider issues related to electricity and gas supply interruptions, capacity shortages, low gas pressure, technical connection requirements and outstanding debts.
The experience of Yangiyul District is expected to be extended to 13 more districts before being introduced in other regions of the country.
Measures are also being taken to improve transparency and compliance in issuing technical connection requirements for business facilities seeking access to electricity and gas networks, as well as to prevent corruption.
As part of preparations for the autumn-winter season, authorities are upgrading problematic networks and equipment, implementing measures to reduce energy losses, improve energy efficiency and eliminate the causes of emergency outages.
At the same time, an electronic system is being developed to communicate instructions to employees across the sector, monitor their implementation and evaluate performance against specific indicators.
The Ministry of Energy has been instructed to establish a unified management system for the sector, coordinate the activities of specialised enterprises, ensure the timely implementation of investment projects and oversee systematic preparations for the autumn-winter season.
Regional Electric Networks JSC has been tasked with improving the reliability of electricity supply, modernising infrastructure in stages, reducing emergency outages and improving customer service.
Uzenergoinspection has been instructed to strengthen oversight of the efficient use of energy resources, compliance with technical requirements, reduction of energy losses and the acceleration of energy audits for major consumers.
Particular attention was also given to winter preparations in mahallas with limited gas supply, expanding private sector participation in the supply of liquefied gas, and using artificial intelligence technologies to monitor processes in the energy sector.
Following the presentation, the president instructed officials to implement the planned measures through a targeted approach based on accurate calculations and to ensure stable supplies of electricity and natural gas to the population and the economy.
