Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 14-15 July, the new Leader of Turkmenistan made a state visit to Uzbekistan.
Recently, an active political dialogue has been maintained between the two states. Over the past 5 years, 14 mutual visits of heads of state have been made, 10 meetings have been held as part of participation in international forums. During these events, agreements were reached that contributed to raising relations to a higher level and filling them with concrete practical content.
The contractual and legal base, which consisted of 270 documents, during the current visit increased by another 19, including: agreements on the development of transport and transit cooperation; on cooperation in the field of tourism; on the management, protection and rational use of the water resources of the Amudarya River; Program of trade and economic cooperation and development of industrial cooperation for 2022-2025; Program of cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs for 2023-2024
A number of documents were also signed on cooperation in the chemical industry, customs issues, railway communication, forestry, museum business, justice, youth policy, television and radio broadcasting, etc.
Obviously, this will expand the range and further strengthen the strategic nature of the Uzbek-Turkmen cooperation.
It should be noted that various joint events contributed to the success of the visit.
In particular, on 12 July the International Institute of Central Asia hosted a Conference on the topic: “Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Prospects for development at a new historical stage of interaction”.
On 13 July, the Forum of Regions was successfully held in Bukhara, at which an agreement was reached on the launch of the Lebap-Bukhara and Dashoguz-Khorezm border trade zones, and representatives of the business community signed investment and trade agreements totaling US$450 million. Other events are being organized.
The fruitful work of the Joint Commission on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation has been established, within the framework of which 16 meetings have been held, meetings of the Uzbek-Turkmen Business Council are being held. An important area of bilateral cooperation is the interaction between the regions of the two states.
As part of the talks, the Leader of Uzbekistan stressed that strengthening bilateral cooperation with Turkmenistan is an undoubted priority of Uzbekistan's foreign policy.
An exchange of views took place on the situation in Afghanistan. The heads of state reaffirmed the importance of coordinating efforts for the socio-economic recovery of this country.
The importance of continuing active contacts and mutual support within the framework of international organizations was emphasized.
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan thanked the Turkmen side for supporting the development of a special resolution of the UN General Assembly on strengthening the interconnectedness between Central and South Asia. There is no doubt that the adoption of this document will contribute to the progressive development of interregional relations based on mutual trust and benefit.
The past talks once again showed that in the person of Ashgabat, Tashkent has a reliable partner on foreign policy platforms.
It is obvious that mutual support and close coordination in the joint promotion of initiatives, as well as the desire of the leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to strengthen practical mutually beneficial cooperation at the bilateral and regional levels, will serve to maintain peace, security and become a factor in the sustainable development of all of Central Asia.
