Parliamentary Committee Reviews Bill on Precursor Chemical Turnover
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Anti-Corruption and Judicial-Legal Issues Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has preliminary reviewed a draft law providing for the establishment of liability for the illicit turnover of precursor chemicals.
During the meeting, it was noted that Uzbekistan has consistently implemented measures in recent years to increase the effectiveness of the fight against drug addiction and organized drug crime. Particular attention is being paid to protecting public health, primarily that of young people, as well as preserving the nation's gene pool.
According to the developers of the document, further improvement of the legislation is necessary to increase the efficiency of countering the manufacture and distribution of synthetic drugs using precursor chemicals in clandestine drug laboratories.
The bill provides for amendments and additions to the Criminal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, and the Code of Administrative Liability. The document proposes to establish liability for violating the legal turnover of precursor chemicals.
The relevant committee is currently preparing the draft law for inclusion on the agenda of the session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
