Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A month-long Summer School for students of the University of Oxford has begun in Uzbekistan, giving participants an opportunity to study the Uzbek language in a native-language environment and learn about the country’s culture, history and traditions. This was announced by Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan.

Over the course of the programme, participants will attend language classes, take part in cultural events and educational meetings, and visit Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara.

The Summer School continues the Uzbek Studies programme officially launched in October 2025 at the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. Saida Mirziyoyeva attended the opening ceremony of the programme.

The new initiative is aimed at further developing academic and educational ties between Uzbekistan and the University of Oxford, as well as expanding opportunities to study the Uzbek language and culture within the international academic community.

Mirziyoyeva said the Uzbek Studies programme launched at Oxford last year was already producing practical results.

“I am very pleased that the Uzbek Studies programme launched in Oxford last October at our initiative is continuing to develop and is already producing remarkable practical results,” she said.

Participation in the Summer School is expected to allow Oxford University students to deepen their knowledge of the Uzbek language while gaining direct experience of Uzbekistan, its culture and national values.
