Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Abu Dhabi have agreed to establish a joint working group to develop cooperation in agriculture and food security and expand supplies of Uzbek products to the UAE market.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Umid Shadiev and the leadership of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), the Dunyо news agency reported.
The talks focused on attracting investment in the agro-industrial sector, expanding the deep processing of agricultural products and increasing exports to the United Arab Emirates.
The Uzbek side presented reforms aimed at modernising agriculture, establishing modern agro-industrial clusters and developing facilities for storing and processing agricultural produce.
The participants also discussed the adoption of international food quality and safety standards, increasing production of export-oriented goods and improving logistics.
Several prospective investment projects were presented at the meeting, including the proposed Surxon Agro modern agro-industrial cluster.
The joint working group, comprising specialists from ADAFSA and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade, will identify Uzbek agricultural and food products with potential demand in the UAE market.
Its members will assess potential supply volumes, applicable requirements and conditions for entering the Emirati market, as well as explore alternative transport and logistics routes.
With ADAFSA’s assistance, the sides also plan to organise a visit to Uzbekistan by a delegation of representatives from leading Emirati companies operating in the agro-industrial and food sectors.
