Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Diyqan Arna mahalla in Nukus district on 18 September during a trip to the Republic of Karakalpakstan, where he reviewed efforts to develop infrastructure, create jobs and increase household incomes, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.
More than 1,000 families, comprising over 3,600 people, live in the mahalla. Projects being implemented there are aimed at improving living conditions, creating employment opportunities and raising residents’ incomes.
The mahalla has introduced the Smart Mahalla system, which uses digital technologies to process citizens’ appeals promptly, maintain demographic records and monitor infrastructure. The system is also used to support the development of entrepreneurship.
Modernization of social infrastructure is continuing. Under the investment programme, a modern kindergarten with 60 places was built at a cost of 4.5 billion soums. Another 1 billion soums from the local budget was allocated for the construction of football and workout facilities.
Beekeeping has become one of the main sources of income growth under the “One Mahalla — One Product” principle. More than 20 households currently raise bees. Each keeps between 50 and 100 hives, producing up to 1 tonne of honey annually.
The President visited the home of mahalla resident Bakhtiyar Zhubaev, where he reviewed a honey-processing workshop and the production of beehive boxes.
During one season, the workshop sells 2 tonnes of processed honey, generating around 200 million soums in annual profit. It also produces more than 250 beehive boxes each year, bringing in up to 80 million soums in additional revenue.
By the end of the year, the Beekeepers Association plans to organize beekeeping in another 100 households on a cooperative basis. This is expected to provide an additional number of families with a stable source of income.
During the visit, Mirziyoyev also met with mahalla activists, representatives of the older generation and young people.
The discussions focused on the further development of the area and improving the well-being of the population.
It was noted that the development of the Aral Sea region and improving the living standards of its population remain among the priorities of state policy.
According to the President, development work in mahallas will expand, while the pace of implementation will accelerate.
