Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the progress of construction of the National Museum, which is being built in central Tashkent.
The project is being implemented in accordance with a presidential resolution dated 1 July 2025. In August last year, the president laid the foundation stone for the future museum complex.
During the visit, the president inspected large-scale construction and installation work, including foundation works and the development of engineering infrastructure. It was noted that the museum is intended to become a major cultural space reflecting Uzbekistan’s history and culture, as well as the goals and aspirations of its people.
The architectural concept for the complex was developed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, while the exhibition concept was prepared by German firm Atelier Brückner. The project incorporates advanced international experience.
The museum site will cover 3.9 hectares, while the building will have a total area of more than 40,000 square metres. The complex will comprise a three-storey main building and a two-storey underground section.
Around 60% of the space is allocated to educational and research activities. The museum will feature exhibition spaces, a library, restoration laboratories and conference halls. Restaurants and children’s play areas will also be provided for families and young people.
The museum will be able to accommodate up to 3,500 visitors at a time. Its exhibitions are planned to feature around 10,000 historical and artistic artefacts.
Upon completion, the museum is expected to form a unified architectural ensemble with the nearby Abulkasym Madrasa, Palace of Friendship of Peoples and National Park.
The museum plans to cooperate with leading museums and cultural institutions around the world to organise joint exhibitions, including the Louvre in France, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the United States and the British Museum.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed those responsible to ensure that construction is completed on schedule and in line with high quality standards.
