Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan ranks second among Central Asian countries by the amount of outstanding debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The country owes the fund 73.64 million SDR, equivalent to approximately US$101.2 million.

Tajikistan has the largest outstanding debt among countries in the region. Its outstanding obligations to the IMF amount to 111.36 million SDR, or about US$153 million.

Kyrgyzstan ranks third, with outstanding debt of 54.02 million SDR, equivalent to approximately US$74.2 million.

Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are not included in the IMF’s current list of countries with outstanding loans.

Uzbekistan’s current obligations to the fund are linked to emergency financing the country received during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 18 May 2020, the IMF Executive Board approved US$375 million in concessional financing for Uzbekistan. The funds were intended to mitigate the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the country’s economy.
