Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Two workers at Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company (NGMK) were killed when a vehicle tire exploded during tire-fitting work at the Kyzylkum mine on 10 September.

According to NGMK’s press service, the incident occurred at around 3 p.m. at a storage site for used vehicle tires operated by the Pistali Transport Workshop No. 1.

The tire exploded while workers were carrying out tire-fitting work on a trailer attached to a pipe-carrying vehicle. Two workers were killed as a result.

Law enforcement authorities are conducting a preliminary investigation. At the same time, state regulatory bodies are carrying out a special investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident and determine the causes of the accident.

NGMK said the company’s responsible departments are taking the necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
