Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and India have agreed to strengthen cooperation in countering threats to national and regional security and reinforce their Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism.

The agreements were reached at the group’s 10th meeting, held in New Delhi on 22 October 2026, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

The meeting was co-chaired by Suhel Ajaz Khan, India’s additional secretary for counterterrorism, and Gulomjon Pirimkulov, head of the Department for Cooperation with South Asian, Middle Eastern and African Countries at Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two sides discussed threats posed by terrorist groups globally and in their respective regions, exchanging views on current and emerging counterterrorism challenges. Topics included countering extremism and radicalisation, combating terrorist financing, preventing the misuse of technology for terrorist purposes, and addressing links between transnational organised crime and terrorism.

The delegations reviewed measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including information sharing, capacity building and the exchange of best practices. They also discussed prospects for cooperation between the relevant agencies of Uzbekistan and India.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation through multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure and the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism.

The next meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism will be held in Uzbekistan, with the date to be agreed by the two sides.
