Kokand Patyr Granted Geographical Indication Status

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's Ministry of Justice has registered Kokand patyr as a geographical indication and entered it into the country's special register, the Intellectual Property Agency's press service said.

The agency said Kokand patyr is one of the distinctive examples of Kokand's gastronomic heritage. It is characterized by its distinctive taste, traditional recipe and unique baking method.

According to the Intellectual Property Agency, the bread's unique baking technique allows it to retain its freshness and taste for several weeks.

Granting geographical indication status provides legal protection for the product's name and traditional production method. It is also expected to help preserve its distinctive characteristics and strengthen quality assurances.

A geographical indication is a form of intellectual property that confirms a product possesses specific qualities resulting from the natural, historical and human characteristics of a particular region.
