Ceiling Damaged at Turon Metro Station in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Part of the ceiling structure at Turon station on the Tashkent Metro's elevated Ring Line was damaged on 16 July, prompting the temporary suspension of train services through the station to ensure passenger safety.

According to Toshkent Metropoliteni, the incident occurred at 2:34 p.m. when decorative ceiling cladding elements partially fell onto the passenger platform. Two passengers sustained minor injuries and received first aid at the scene.

Following the incident, metro specialists, together with relevant organisations, began visual and technical inspections of the station's structures. Preliminary findings indicate that the damage was limited to the decorative section of the ceiling.

A special commission has been established to determine the cause of the incident, while repair work is under way.

Train services through the station were temporarily restricted during the inspections and repairs. To maintain passenger transport, free metrobus services were introduced between the Qipchoq and Quruvchilar stations.

City authorities and transport organisations also deployed additional bus services. Extra buses are operating between stations 13 and 14, and between stations 13 and 12, at intervals of about three minutes.

The Tashkent khokimiyat said it had been in contact with the metro management since the first minutes after the incident and was providing the necessary assistance to ensure passenger safety. Officers from the Tashkent City Traffic Safety Department are managing traffic and maintaining safety in the surrounding area.

Toshkent Metropoliteni apologised to passengers for the temporary inconvenience and said passenger safety remains its highest priority. Inspections and repair work are continuing.
