Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Law enforcement officers in the Yangi-Namangan district of the Namangan region have uncovered a case of illegal religious education provided to minors, according to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Data provided by the ministry revealed that a resident of the "Yangi Zamin" mahalla organized unauthorized religious classes for children. Investigations established that he was teaching 27 minors, charging their parents US$100 per child.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident under Part 2 of Article 229-2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which stipulates liability for violating the established procedure for teaching religious doctrines. Investigative measures are currently underway.

Additionally, legal measures were taken against the parents of the minors under Article 47 of the Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Administrative Liability for failing to fulfill obligations in the upbringing and education of children. Each parent was ordered to pay a fine equal to five sizes of basic estimated value.
