Khorezm region’s economy grows by 6.4%

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Khorezm region’s gross regional product (GRP) grew by 6.4% in 2009, local state-run news agency reported.

Industrial output of the region increased by 3.2% and agriculture production rose by 6.1%, UzA reported. Retail trade turnover increased by 15.3% and rendered paid services – 8.1%.

The region implemented a regional programme on liquidation and re-structuring insolvent enrerprises in 2009, which allowed to increase output at 15 enterprises for 6.3 billion soums. Within the localization programme, the region realized 8 projects for US$3.1 million.

In the reporting period, seven industrial enterprises of the region exported products for US$9.2 million.

The region pays special attention to support small and private businesses. In 2009, share of the sector in GRP made up 67.4%.

Khorezm region attracted investments for 219.3 billion soums in 2009. About 458 small industrial enterprises were created for 17.6 billion soums.
