Global Environment Facility chief arrives in Samarkand for Eco Expo 2026
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the lead-up to the 8th Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the international Eco Expo Central Asia 2026 exhibition, foreign delegations have begun arriving in Samarkand.
One of the first high-level guests to arrive at Samarkand International Airport was Claude Gascon, Acting Chief Executive Officer and Director for Strategy and Operations of the Global Environment Facility.
The distinguished guest was welcomed by representatives of the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change, led by First Deputy Minister of Ecology Obidjon Kudratov.
Following the reception, the delegation proceeded to the Silk Road Samarkand tourist complex, which will serve as the main venue for the upcoming international events.
The 8th GEF Assembly and Eco Expo Central Asia 2026 are expected to bring together representatives from more than 185 countries to discuss pressing issues related to ecology, climate change, the green economy, and sustainable development.
Hosting such large-scale international events in Uzbekistan reflects the country’s growing role in advancing the global environmental agenda and strengthening international cooperation in environmental protection.
