EDB Calls Central Asia Warehousing a Decade Opportunity
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) considers warehouse infrastructure in Central Asia a “decade opportunity” and plans to significantly increase investment in the sector, said Alexey Rogachevsky, the bank’s Director for Uzbekistan.
He made the statement at the Central Asia Warehouse Summit 2026 held in Tashkent.
During a session dedicated to warehouse logistics and financing, the EDB representative presented the bank’s approach to infrastructure project financing, including selection criteria and priorities within the Eurasian Commodity Distribution Network megaproject.
The bank places particular emphasis on Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, which are showing the fastest growth in warehouse logistics across the region. In Uzbekistan, demand is driven by e-commerce expansion, strengthening transit potential, and government support measures.
The EDB focuses on projects with strong integration effects, especially facilities along international transport corridors such as the “North–South” route and the Trans-Caspian corridor. Priority is given to multimodal logistics hubs, dry ports, and specialized warehouses, including pharmaceutical, cold-chain, and agro-logistics facilities.
Warehouse infrastructure is viewed as a key component of the Eurasian Commodity Distribution Network aimed at building a modern logistics system across the region. According to EDB estimates, these initiatives could increase regional foreign trade turnover by more than 20% by 2030.
The report also highlights that Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are emerging as key logistics hubs in Eurasia, strengthening the region’s role as a bridge between China and Europe, Russia and South Asia, as well as the Middle East and the Caspian region.
Rogachevsky emphasized that Uzbekistan is a core element of the future logistics network and could jointly with Kazakhstan form a central distribution hub for Central Asia. The bank also confirmed its readiness to act as a key anchor investor in developing this infrastructure.
The Central Asia Warehouse Summit 2026, organized by IBC Global, brought together more than 200 participants and 35 speakers from 10 countries, underscoring strong international investor interest in the region’s logistics and warehousing sector.
