Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — As part of celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the Center for Pharmaceutical Safety in Tashkent, a meeting took place between Zakia Al-Kurdi, Director of Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs at the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), and Alisher Temirov, Director of the Center.

USP is an independent U.S.-based organization focused on developing pharmacopeias, ensuring the quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines, biologics, and dietary supplements. It establishes internationally recognized standards and supports healthcare through laboratory research, educational programs, and technical assistance, thereby contributing to enhanced pharmaceutical oversight and global quality assurance.

During the meeting, the sides discussed their joint work plan for 2025–2026. Key activities include the annual organization of regional regulatory meetings, implementation of USP training programs, complex laboratory testing supported by the Technical Committee, and applying the organization’s expertise to identify potential drug shortages.

Special emphasis was placed on USP experts’ support in successfully passing WHO’s GBT evaluation and laboratory prequalification, updating the existing preferential agreement between USP and the Center, and considering other areas of cooperation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and implementing joint projects aimed at ensuring the quality and safety of pharmaceutical products in Uzbekistan.
