Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — National youth nuclear dialogues are being held in 15 countries from 1 September to 30 October 2026, organized by members of the second cohort and mentors of the Impact Team 2050 International Youth Advisory Council.
The program covers Argentina, Armenia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Hungary, Egypt, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Rwanda, Serbia, Tanzania, Uzbekistan, Ethiopia and South Africa.
Participants are discussing educational and professional development opportunities in the nuclear industry, as well as barriers affecting young people’s interest in nuclear energy and engineering professions. The meetings are expected to result in recommendations to make the industry more attractive to young professionals.
The program aims to engage young people in advanced technologies, scientific and industry activities, as well as identify human resources, informational and public barriers related to nuclear energy.
The dialogues are open not only to students and young professionals specializing in nuclear physics, but also to representatives of related fields. This format allows participants to discuss nuclear and related education, career opportunities, international cooperation and public engagement.
Based on the dialogues, a roadmap is planned to be developed outlining the main obstacles preventing young people from choosing careers in the nuclear industry and recommendations for making the sector more attractive. The document may be used in planning workforce training for the nuclear industry in the countries represented on the Impact Team 2050 Council.
The roadmap is expected to be presented at a meeting with the director general of Rosatom State Corporation during the UN Climate Change Conference COP31, which will be held from 9 to 20 November 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye.
The first youth dialogues were held in Kazakhstan: on 1 September in Almaty and on 10 September in Astana. More than 500 students from L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, the Almaty branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and other universities, as well as young professionals and representatives of the nuclear, scientific and energy communities, took part in the events.
Sama Bilbao y León, director general of the World Nuclear Association, addressed the participants in a video message.
She emphasized the role of the younger generation in the future of nuclear energy and opportunities for international professional development.
In Astana, participants met with Almasadam Satkaliyev, chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy, and Sayasat Nurbek, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education. They discussed the prospects of the nuclear industry, training a new generation of specialists and opportunities to realize their scientific and professional potential.
As part of the program, dialogues are scheduled in Bangladesh on 20 September, Indonesia on 22 September, Egypt on 24 September and 15 October, Tanzania on 24 September, Brazil on 30 September and 16 October, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on 8 October, Ethiopia and South Africa on 14 October, Armenia on 15 and 16 October, Hungary and Serbia on 19 October, and Rwanda on 30 October.
Impact Team 2050 is the International Youth Advisory Council to the director general of Rosatom State Corporation.
The first cohort of the Council worked from 2022 to 2026, while the second cohort comprises 13 young representatives from 13 countries who were selected through a multi-stage process. National youth nuclear dialogues are being conducted by members of the second cohort and mentors of the Council.
