Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Russia have signed a roadmap outlining priority areas for cooperation in healthcare, including medical education, high-tech medical care, pharmaceuticals and the early detection of serious diseases.

The document was signed following a meeting between Uzbekistan’s Health Minister Eldor Adilov and Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko on the sidelines of the World Summit “Investing in Children’s Well-being,” the press service of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health reported.

The sides noted that the political will of both countries’ leaders and dialogue based on mutual trust provide a strong foundation for taking bilateral healthcare cooperation to a new level.

Several joint projects are currently underway, covering medical personnel training, the introduction of modern diagnostic and treatment methods, and expanding public access to high-tech medical care.

Medical education

Cooperation in medical education is also expanding. A branch of Russia’s Pirogov National Research Medical University is being established in Tashkent.

The project includes the development of educational and clinical facilities, the formation of a teaching staff and the installation of modern equipment at a simulation and accreditation centre.

New areas of cooperation

The two ministers agreed on the need to expand cooperation in high-tech medical care and discussed prospects for joint pharmaceutical projects.

They also identified immediate priorities for collaboration in the early detection of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, as well as the development of nuclear medicine in Uzbekistan.

The roadmap sets out promising areas for further bilateral cooperation in healthcare.
