Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Japanese immigration authorities have deported an Uzbek citizen who was staying in the country illegally, the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan has reported.
According to the diplomatic mission, the individual entered Japan on a short-term visa but remained in the country after the authorised period of stay had expired. Japanese authorities subsequently detained the person and placed them in custody.
The embassy reminded Uzbek citizens that violations of immigration rules, including overstaying and engaging in unauthorised employment, can result in strict penalties. These may include arrest by police, detention at an immigration centre and subsequent deportation.
The diplomatic mission also warned that Japanese authorities share information about identified immigration violators with the government of Uzbekistan. As a result, such individuals may face further measures after returning home.
The embassy urged citizens not to trust questionable offers of employment in Japan that involve bypassing established requirements and to carefully check the conditions of their travel.
The statement also clarified that applying for refugee status cannot be used as a way to extend a stay in Japan or obtain permission to work. According to the embassy, applications submitted for these purposes are not permitted.
Applicants whose requests for refugee status are rejected may face detention at an immigration centre and deportation.
In addition, providing knowingly false information or using fraudulent schemes when submitting an application may lead to serious legal consequences.
