Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Kazakhstan has taken first place among Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states in terms of the value of announced new investment projects.
The finding was made by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in a special report on investment in the EAEU region for 2026. Published on 25 October, the report was presented at the World Investment Forum in Doha, Qatar.
The report examines key trends in international investment flows, developments in investment policy and prospects for attracting foreign capital to EAEU member states.
According to UNCTAD, the total value of announced new greenfield investment projects across the EAEU rose by 12% in 2025 to US$25.9 billion.
Kazakhstan accounted for about US$24 billion, a 34% increase compared with 2024. This represented approximately 93% of the total value of new projects across the union. The report's authors said the figure reflected a high concentration of announced investment in the Kazakh economy.
The report also highlights Kazakhstan's consistent efforts to improve its investment climate, including simplifying administrative procedures and digitising public services for investors. The introduction of a one-stop-shop mechanism and the development of a digital investment platform received positive assessments.
Particular attention is given to the prospects for attracting international capital into industry, energy, infrastructure and high-tech sectors.
According to UNCTAD, these areas can help diversify the economy, develop higher value-added production and expand the country's non-resource export potential.
At the same time, the report's authors emphasise that announced projects represent investor intentions only, while their implementation depends on the availability of financing, infrastructure quality and the effectiveness of support for investment initiatives.
Kazakhstan's further efforts in this area are focused on implementing major industrial and infrastructure projects, introducing modern technologies, creating jobs and ensuring sustainable economic growth.
