Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's passenger rail company Uztemiryuyluvchi (Uzzheldorpass) has launched an investigation into social media videos depicting overcrowded conditions on a train traveling between Sariasia and Termez in the Surkhandarya region.

The circulating video footage shows passengers standing or sitting in the corridor of a compartment car. A video report also claimed that the train car's cooling system was not functioning.

Uztemiryuyluvchi said the train operating on the Sariasia–Termez route consists of four cars. Tickets for the service are sold without assigned seat numbers, allowing passengers to occupy any available seats.

Each car has a capacity of 81 seats and is equipped with standard amenities, according to the company. Uztemiryuyluvchi said cooling systems are required to operate continuously during summer, while heating is provided during winter months.

The rail operator acknowledged that a sharp increase in passenger flow on weekends and holidays can lead to higher passenger volumes on specific train runs.

Uztemiryuyluvchi said it is studying the information shared on social media platforms and will take appropriate measures following the completion of its review.
