Mirziyoyev Launches 163 Regional Industrial and Social Projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev led a commissioning ceremony launching 72 major industrial and service projects alongside 91 social facilities across the country. The total investment for the new infrastructure reached nearly 50 trillion sum (US$3.9 billion).

Over the past decade, Uzbekistan's economy expanded more than 2.5 times, attracting $160 billion in foreign direct investment and commissioning 2,163 large-scale industrial projects valued at $76 billion. During this timeframe, national employment programs created nearly six million permanent jobs.

In 2026 alone, Uzbekistan commissioned 56 major industrial and service facilities worth $1.7 billion, creating 8,800 high-wage positions. Additionally, 46 trillion sum from the state budget funded the construction, repair, and reconstruction of 385 schools, 113 kindergartens, 81 hospitals, 7,500 kilometers of roads, and 3,200 kilometers of water supply and sanitation networks.

The newly inaugurated projects will generate 15,000 jobs and yield an additional 1 trillion sum in annual budget revenue. The investment slate spans key economic sectors, including power generation, agriculture, food processing, metallurgy, automotive manufacturing, electrical engineering, construction materials, mining, and textiles.

Key Regional Infrastructure Developments:

• Syrdarya Region: Installed 1,573 MW of power generation capacity.
• Karakalpakstan: Launched a 200 MW wind power plant alongside a 100 MW energy storage system.
• Navoi Region: Commissioned renewable energy infrastructure generating 657 million kWh of electricity annually.
• Samarkand and Tashkent Regions: Introduced metallurgy facilities aimed at industrial localization and import substitution.
• Andijan, Namangan, and Jizzakh Regions: Operationalized textile, knitting, and carpet manufacturing units to bolster export revenue.

The social infrastructure track included 36 kindergartens, 43 schools, seven higher education institutions, and three hospitals.

In New Tashkent, authorities completed the 10-hectare campus for New Uzbekistan University, designed for 7,000 students. The university features a Rectors' School established with Harvard University, an executive training hub developed with Oxford University, and an Institute of Artificial Intelligence set to open on October 1. New Tashkent also debuted a five-story, 30,000-square-meter National Library accommodating up to 1,500 readers simultaneously.

In Karshi, the 400 billion sum University of Economics and Pedagogy opened to serve 3,000 students, creating 700 local jobs. Meanwhile, a new medical facility in the Fergana Region will provide annual care for 60,000 patients and conduct health screenings for 30,000 women.

President Mirziyoyev concluded the ceremony by pressing a symbolic activation button, officially operationalizing all 163 facilities.
