Uzbek Food Exports to Belgium Exceed $1 Million

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan exported 807 tonnes of food products valued at over US$1 million to Belgium in the first half of 2026, with 10 domestic enterprises participating in the shipments, according to a report by television channel O’zbekiston 24.

The primary commodities delivered to the Belgian market during the reporting period included dried plums, dried herbs, beans, and raisins. Positioned as a key European trade and logistics hub, expanded exports to Belgium are expected to support the broader entry of Uzbek goods across the European Union.

The growth of Uzbek exports to EU member states in recent years has been supported by trade preferences under the EU’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+). Access to the GSP+ system has contributed to nearly tripling Uzbekistan’s export volume to European markets, according to the report.

Uzbekistan achieved GSP+ beneficiary status in April 2021, granting duty-free access for more than 6,200 product lines entering the European market. Utilizing these preferential terms requires domestic producers to comply with rules of origin, international commitments, and European quality and safety standards.

To expand export reach, the Food Safety Committee plans to support a Made in Uzbekistan pavilion at an international food trade exhibition in October 2026, facilitating direct negotiations between Uzbek business owners and foreign buyers.

Concurrently, Uzbekistan is updating its phytosanitary, veterinary, and sanitary control standards, providing regulatory guidance to domestic businesses. In phytosanitary regulation, authorities have implemented over 30 international standards across agricultural production and export processes.

The country aims to raise overall exports to Europe to US$10 billion in line with presidential directives, integrating domestic producers into global supply chains.
