Uzbekistan's Annual Inflation Slows to 6.4% in July

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Consumer prices in Uzbekistan fell by 0.1% in July 2026 compared with June, while annual inflation slowed to 6.4%, the National Statistics Committee said.

In July 2025, consumer prices had declined by 0.2% month-on-month. Since the beginning of 2026, prices have risen by 3.2%, compared with 4.0% in the same period a year earlier.

Excluding seasonal fluctuations in fruit and vegetable prices, consumer prices increased by 0.4% in July, compared with 0.5% in July 2025. From January through July, prices excluding this factor rose by 4.6%, compared with 5.7% a year earlier, while annual inflation on the same basis slowed to 6.7% from 10.2%.

The monthly decline in overall prices was mainly driven by lower food prices. Eggplant prices fell by 42.8%, sweet peppers by 39.4%, tomatoes by 24%, watermelons by 20.3% and potatoes by 18%.

At the same time, carrots rose by 12.6% and onions by 1.7%. Among other food products, rice increased by 5.9%, while sugar and pasteurised milk each rose by 0.8%. Boneless beef gained 0.6%, whereas egg prices fell by 5% and bone-in beef declined by 0.1%.

In the housing and utilities sector, the introduction of new household waste collection tariffs in Ferghana Region from July pushed the nationwide average price for the service up by 2.7%. Apartment building maintenance fees increased in Navoi Region, lifting the national average by 0.6%. Housing repair and security services rose by 0.8%, while rents increased by 0.3%.

Transport recorded the largest increase among major spending categories. Retail gasoline prices rose by 4.8% during the month. AI-92 gasoline increased by 3.9%, AI-95 by 8.5%, and AI-98 and AI-100 by 10%.

Propane prices rose by 1.7% and compressed natural gas by 0.3%. Urban bus fares increased by an average of 1.4% nationwide, including a 15% rise in Tashkent Region. International airfares edged up by 0.2%, while domestic flights became 0.9% cheaper amid the strengthening of the soum against the euro. Long-distance railway fares increased by 0.4%.

By category, goods prices fell by 0.4% during the month, compared with a 0.5% decline in July 2025. Food prices dropped by 0.9%, while non-food goods rose by 0.3%, matching the increase recorded a year earlier. Services increased by 0.5%, compared with 0.9% in July 2025.

Since the beginning of the year, goods prices have increased by 2.7%, including a 1.5% rise in food prices and a 4.2% increase in non-food goods. Service prices have climbed by 4.6%.

On an annual basis, goods prices rose by 6.3%, including 6.4% for food products and 6.0% for non-food goods, while services increased by 6.6%. All annual indicators were below the levels recorded a year earlier, with the sharpest slowdown seen in services, where annual inflation had reached 16.3% in July 2025.

The National Statistics Committee reported no significant regional deviations from the nationwide trend. Consumer prices were unchanged in Tashkent, rose by 0.1% in Ferghana Region and declined by between 0.1% and 0.3% in the country's other regions.

The committee also said that since January 2026 it has published, alongside the main Consumer Price Index calculated using the modified Young arithmetic formula, an additional index based on the Young geometric formula for analytical purposes only. Under that methodology, prices fell by 0.4% in July and increased by 2.1% since the beginning of the year.
