Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov met with World Bank experts on 24 September as part of a mission focused on identifying new drivers of the country’s economic growth, the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s information service and communications department said.
The meeting was attended by World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia Naji Benhassine, Regional Director for Practices in Europe and Central Asia Abebe Adugna, International Finance Corporation Regional Manager for Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Neil McKain, and other responsible representatives.
The participants discussed prospects for Uzbekistan’s economy to enter a new stage of development and measures to ensure the sustainable preservation of high economic growth rates. Particular attention was paid to developing new sources of growth.
The sides considered ways to support ongoing economic reforms, increase private-sector activity and stimulate investment. Creating favourable conditions for new and quality jobs was also identified as a priority.
The participants also exchanged views on strengthening the potential of economic sectors and further improving the business environment. Measures to enhance Uzbekistan’s economic competitiveness and expand the country’s participation in global value chains were also discussed.
Following the meeting, the sides agreed to continue constructive dialogue and expand cooperation to provide comprehensive support for economic reforms.
They also plan to jointly explore new opportunities to ensure long-term, sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Uzbekistan.
