Uzbekistan Wins 12 Medals at Minsk Boxing Event
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Young boxers from Uzbekistan delivered a strong performance at an international open boxing tournament held in Minsk from April 22 to 27, an event dedicated to the memory of honored coach of the Republic of Belarus V.V. Botvinnik.
Competing in the 2010–2011 age categories, Uzbek athletes collected a total of 12 medals, including six gold, five silver and one bronze, marking one of the team’s most successful international results at youth level.
Gold medals were secured by Abdullokh Ziyavitdinov (up to 46 kg), Islombek Furkatov (up to 52 kg), Ogabek Otamurodov (up to 54 kg), as well as Raykhona Alimkhanova (up to 46 kg), Nafisa Bosimova (up to 50 kg) and Sabina Mirzaeva (up to 54 kg), giving Uzbekistan the highest number of top podium finishes among participating teams.
Silver medals went to Mustafo Tursunboev (up to 48 kg), Ilyos Zarifboev (up to 50 kg), Khojiakbar Mirzamahmudov (up to 57 kg), Ulugbek Soliyev (up to 60 kg) and Abdurakhmon Murtazaev (up to 63 kg).
The team’s only bronze medal was won by Amirhon Salakhiddinov in the up to 75 kg weight category.
The overall performance underlined the depth of Uzbekistan’s youth boxing system and confirmed the country’s strong competitive standing on the international boxing stage.
