Uzbekistan Namangan Airport Terminal to Open in June

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The new passenger terminal at Namangan International Airport in Uzbekistan is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of June, according to Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev in an interview with Spot on the sidelines of the 59th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank in Samarkand.

Choriev said the project is in its final stage of implementation and noted that a private investor has contributed around US$70 million, roughly half of the total project cost.

Earlier reports said the overall investment in the airport’s modernization amounts to US$140 million. In September 2025, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the progress of the works, while the project was first presented to the head of state in spring 2024.

The new three-story passenger terminal will increase the airport’s capacity 2.5 times, to 1,200 passengers per hour. It will include modern border control facilities, a business lounge, duty-free shops, commercial areas, public spaces, and a medical unit.

In parallel, construction is underway on a cargo terminal designed to handle up to 50 tons of freight per day. It is expected to expand export air cargo operations to 90 countries and help form a unified cargo system in the Ferghana Valley.

According to Uzbekistan Airports management, the project also includes doubling aircraft parking stands from seven to 14. Completion of the full modernization program was previously scheduled for spring 2026.

Authorities in Namangan region say construction is proceeding at an accelerated pace, with landscaping and greening work also underway around the airport site.
