Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A recent statement by the Speaker of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, suggesting that only driver’s licenses from countries where Russian is an official language would be recognized in Russia, sparked active discussion on social media.
Users speculated that Uzbek citizens might lose the ability to use their existing driver’s licenses in Russia and would have to retake exams from scratch.
The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Russia clarified that, under current Russian legislation, foreign driver’s licenses remain valid for personal use of vehicles in Russia.
However, for professional activities—such as working in taxis, or in passenger and freight transportation—a Russian driver’s license is required, obtained through the prescribed procedure.
“The Embassy of Uzbekistan continues to maintain constant contact with Russian authorities and to inform citizens about any changes affecting their rights and interests,” the diplomatic mission emphasized.
