Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A ceremony marking the start of the first academic year at the Tashkent branch of Bauman Moscow State Technical University was held in Tashkent. The campus is the Russian university’s first branch outside Russia.
A total of 42 students who successfully passed the entrance examinations began their studies under the Russian engineering education system this academic year. Students were admitted to three programmes: Computer Science and Computer Engineering, Information Systems and Technologies, and Design and Technology of Electronic Equipment.
The ceremony was attended by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Kongratbay Sharipov, Bauman Moscow State Technical University Rector Mikhail Gordin, Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Alexei Yerkhov, Tashkent State Technical University Rector Sadriddin Turabjanov and Rossotrudnichestvo Representative in Uzbekistan Irina Staroselskaya.
The programmes were selected based on the needs of Uzbekistan’s industrial sector. Amid the country’s digital transformation, there remains strong demand for qualified IT specialists and engineers, including developers, cybersecurity specialists and electronics engineers.
Addressing first-year students, Gordin recalled Bauman University’s main motto: “Courage, will, hard work and perseverance!” He described the opening of the university’s first international branch in Tashkent as a historic step.
“We do not make allowances for the distance from Moscow. The curricula, requirements and assessment criteria are the same as those at Second Baumanskaya Street. Lectures at the branch will be delivered by professors from Moscow, while in their senior years students will have the opportunity to study directly at the Moscow campus. The quality of a Bauman education does not depend on geographical coordinates,” the rector said.
Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Alexei Yerkhov called the opening of the branch a historic event and congratulated its first students.
“You are not simply first-year students — you are the first students of the only branch of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, and it is you who will have to become the true intellectual elite of your country,” the diplomat said.
According to Yerkhov, the knowledge and experience gained at Bauman University will enable students to tackle complex technological challenges. He also expressed gratitude to the higher education ministries of the two countries, the leadership of Bauman Moscow State Technical University and Tashkent State Technical University for their work in establishing the branch.
The ambassador said cooperation in education reflects the development of the Russian-Uzbek strategic partnership. In his view, graduates of the branch will be able to contribute to the implementation of large-scale tasks and national projects set out in Uzbekistan’s development strategy.
As part of the ceremony, honorary guests and branch officials presented student ID cards to the first-year students.
A lecture by Bauman Moscow State Technical University Rector Mikhail Gordin for students and their parents followed.
The same day, the second meeting of the branch’s Board of Trustees was held. Anton Yegorov, Director for International Affairs, presented issues related to ensuring the campus’s full operation and its further strategic development.
The priorities include ensuring the quality of education in line with Bauman Moscow State Technical University’s academic standards, integrating the educational process with the needs of industry and developing joint research projects.
Graduates of the branch are expected to acquire fundamental knowledge and practical skills that meet the demands of the digital era and be able to work in their chosen fields both in Uzbekistan and abroad.
